WHO IS THIS GROUP FOR?
This group is for adults with food, exercise, and body image issues. It is designed for men and women in ANY phase of their recovery process.
No matter how much you may understand the “why’s” and the functions of the Food Behaviors, there comes a time when you say “What now? Now that I have all this insight, I still don’t know how to stop doing these behaviors or how to stop obsessing about my body”.
This is where DBT comes in – it gives choices in the tough moments, when we are at the crossroads of having to choose whether to act out or use healthier coping skills.
WHAT IS DBT?
DBT stands for Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, which is a therapy that focusses on skills and strategies to manage intense emotions. You will find that most treatment programs for Eating Disorders have a DBT skills group.
As indicated in the name, it’s a behavioral therapy, which means the primary focus is behavior change. Core DBT skills are centered around mindfulness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.
